We urge researcher and policymakers to rethink the language they use to describe people having difficulty paying energy bills. The way research & policy talks about these inequities shapes thinking and approaches to energy challenges. 3/4

Terms like "the fuel poor" have implications about shame and hard work, or the lack of it. The suggestion is - if you worked a bit harder, or managed money more carefully, you'd be able to pay energy bills. But the problems are not the fault of individuals - they are systemic. 2/4

There are a lot of systemic reasons why women are not applying more, not least the internal requirements for PIs in some institutions. Sorry to hear of your experience😕

I will highlight experience of hidden disabilities (e.g. neurodiversity). I'm a member of DPTAC's Rail Working Group, and Research & Evidence Working Group, so will bring research expertise to the role. Look forward to working w. DPTAC members, secretariat & civil service colleagues in the new role!
