Inspiring @sussexnrggroup.bsky.social keynote lecture by @dharavyas.bsky.social, CEO of Energy UK this evening. UK has done well to stop coal; #renewables are getting cheaper, UK #emissions are going down. Adding renewables will decouple gas & electricity prices, which will help #energybills too.

As highlighted by @janrosenow.bsky.social, women remain underrepresented also in energy research leadership. In 2019, 420 female PIs representing 17% of EPSRC projects. For EPSCR grants over £10m, ONLY 6% of applications came from women. Needs to change!

How time flies - I picked this up from the book binders 10 years ago today. Feeling quite lucky that I had a chance to write a monograph instead of a PhD by papers (papers nowadays tend to have more weight though not literally!) #phd #phdthesis #academicwriting #books

The #energypricecap goes up in January, with typical cost of gas & electricity at £1,738, £21/year more. Bills are still higher than pre-covid times. Our research shows that people have to choose between eating, heating, & increasingly travel.

I was on @itvnews.bsky.social Meridian last night in a story on how #climatechange impacts homes. I highlighted that we are witnessing climate change related #heatwaves, #flooding & extreme weather events also in the UK. Thanks for the opportunity to comment, let's make sure we protect homes!

Almost Finland level layers needed in the South East UK today. Keep warm in the #coldsnap & look after each other. Check that your pipes are not at risk of freezing & ensure your #heating system has been serviced (if you rent, landlord needs to ensure plumbing & heating work properly).
