Retired Oracle performance expert.
President of SYM42.
I love science (especially biology & genetics), cats, beer, and community.
Presenter, blogger, ex Oracle ACE director.
Did I mention I love cats? I currently serve 2 rescued ones.
Failed scientist.
I'm a cat person. I've had this one since she popped out her mum(& I still serve mum too). I took great pains to teach her both verbal & visual cues from birth. I spent hours & hours at it.

She's a cat, not one fig given!

But she will do ANYTHING if she hears a pack of Dreamies being opened.

I played it on an Amstrad CPC 464. Often greenscreen but occasionally on the family TV with my converter box.

Perhaps he knew the dog only spoke English?

Was the person you talked to called Jean-Paul?

I'll get Sue to post you a needle and thread.

If you know people who have never had it explained to them how filthy keyboards get, it's fun to ask them to turn theirs over and shake it over a piece of white paper...

Not as bad as your example, but usually pretty gross 😆

😆
Let that be a lesson to you to document your code!

{remember all those arguments about whether or not code should be documented?}

Poor choice for a ram raid, in my opinion.

You got chipped back when we all did, the latest "vaccines" just add exra features like LLM and direct ChatGPT data sharing.

Which reminds me, I need to see about a 'flu jab myself given my history. That and I want to keep in with our illuminate overlords.

You got Covid vaccinated didn't you? Those chips they inserted last for ever as they are powered by your internal chi and communicate via ley lines.
No phone needed.

For more para-science, just drop me a postcard.

Depending on the conference and knowing the right person to ask, sometimes they take late submissions. It does not harm to politely ask!

He won't sweat it.

You got me there!

Anecdote (sorry). In my first IT job I worked with a database-come-OS called MUMPS. We "supported" this utterly evil tool called Report Genie which mapped the data into an RDBMS structure and allowed SQL-like reports.
No one could make it work.
Until I did.
And I HATED it!
October 27, 2025 at 9:30 PM
Is it SQL generated by some evil reporting tool, by any chance? Or simply written by a maniac?

Yeah, I just checked the weather at my house via the online portal to my weather station, which also means the power is also on.

I also turned on some lights and looked out the window at the rain. 😁

I do cheat a bit, I use shop-bought puff pastry. But so do proper chefs, so I am told.

Do I interpret this as in someway suggsting Larry's company is the... Empire? 😁

I know what you mean (except I've never colour coordinated in my life!). I could pack for week away across 3 countries in an hour or so, a single backpack. Now it takes me a couple of hours to get an overnight bag sorted. And if I'm going by car, that boot is full of "I might want" items.

To be fair, if we white U.K. people all took our lineage back to Tudor times, we ALL had family in Kent. And Yorkshire. And France. And all Europe. Probably Asia and north Africa too. Go back 100 generations and we all link back to 90% of the globe. You are related to me 😀
