Anecdote (sorry). In my first IT job I worked with a database-come-OS called MUMPS. We "supported" this utterly evil tool called Report Genie which mapped the data into an RDBMS structure and allowed SQL-like reports.
No one could make it work.
Until I did.
And I HATED it!
