Pod envy most likely, but have you ever considered a pod on Portugal? Decarbonising as fast if not faster than Finland, not quite as wealthy, and w/o overpriced nuclear in. the mix

Do we need to choose? I prefer not: being fairly optimistic on the technological front (although very skeptical myself of some solutions, including DAC, BECCS, CCS), but not putting all of my eggs onto tech, rather edging that bet with a fair dollop of societal change - esp in food system change

These are not done by decision makers. Not at Shell, not anywhere else. It's the same whether you're at Shell or at OECD. These are decision support systems; they inform, do not replace decisions. Whether decision makers consider them is not up to the modellers in their internal teams.

These reports are not commissioned. Oil companies have by their very nature the need to do long term scenario planning. These are scenarios, not forecasts and are therefore not an expression of Shell's "belief", rather what they conceive can happen. That said, quite progressive on the transition.

Only problem is that the geothermal resource is not widely available as wind and solar. Better geothermal technology may lead to exploring submarginal resources soon though.
