So sorry! Once something, I know not what, flew into my mouth, but I spat it out before it actually stung me. It did however still manage to spray its venom all over my mouth. So uncomfortable!!

I didn't have words this eloquent to put to it but this is why Catholic young me chose a math degree, so it's entirely possible in his case too!

Very disappointing frankly. I really liked him back in the day and enjoyed his rise to the episcopacy!

Frankly the only time I'd return a book even unread is if maybe I found out it was 1) misprinted so badly as to prevent my use of it (missing more than a few pages or pages grossly out of order) or 2) not what I thought it was (I inadvertently bought the wrong translation?). And (2) is iffy lol.

Yeah that's so true. All the same, I think this xkcd is a little bit relevant here. If you had any potential you'd think even the wastebasket thing would at least help you not be dogshit.

Original Title Text: I'd like to find a corpus of writing from children in a non-self-selected sample (e.g. handwritten letters to the president from everyone in the same teacher's 7th grade class every year)--and score the kids today versus the kids 20 years ago on various objective measures of writing quality. The rawest proof of the concept of 'talent' that ever existed. No matter how much practice and exposure he gets he simply does not have the capacity/talent to get better.
