Erstwhile scientific director of the Beilstein-Institut; symposiarch; cooks, grooves and eats; plays bass (almost); oenophile; travels near and far.
Sad loss. They don’t make them like that any more.

With the latest idiocy no choice was left.
@georgemonbiot.bsky.social put it quite succinctly today, probably not your choice of words though….
I do not understand why supposedly socialist parties in Europe are pandering after and mimicking extreme right wing policies….

Never ask a physicist how to cook!
A chemist (or cook) would tell you to just reduce the starchy pasta water a bit to increase the starch concentration if necessary ….
Just like Mamma would!

I think you’ll find that David Liu is actually a chemist. At least he was when I met him…
A fantastic scientist, working in a multidisciplinary manner in molecular science.
To reduce his and similar scientists funding is pure Luddite behavior.

America has not always lived up to its ideals as a nation, particularly with foreign policy. We must be honest about that.

This moment from both Trump and Vance was reprehensible and yet another move to support global autocracy.

We must continue to push for a higher standard from our leaders.

Nice stories and memories, with a sprinkling of humor would be very appropriate

This is very sad news. A great scientist Fraser was always very enjoyable company and fun to be with. He graced us with his presence as a speaker at Beilstein-Institut symposia. In the good old days of Twitter we had some amusing exchanges. A great loss to science and to his family and friends.
