Not gonna lie, I 100% agree with you Noel, & while I wasn't so keen on the original proposal, the new one looks great to me. It's sympathetic to the actually original parts of the station that remain, & in my opinion look more impressive of a gateway to London than the current station does.

I think this paragraph is key. That simply running HS2 services onto the WCML at Handsacre as is, is just too sub optimal an option to continue with, which I won't lie I sort of agree with.

A little clip from my ride behind the replica of ‘Locomotion No. 1’. Crazy to think I got to experience what it was like to be on that first journey 200 years ago on the Stockton & Darlington Railway, along admittedly only a short section of that very line!

Was very impressed with the even not fully complete standard interior, of the two vehicles which will form part of 810022.
I personally found the seats comfortable, & thought the seat to window alignment looked good to. All in all I’d say these will be an improvement on previous 80X interiors.

What a fantastic time I had at The Greatest Gathering yesterday! So many things to see, explore & learn. Even after a full day, 20,000 odd steps & I still didn’t see everything.

Then it was time to board my last train of my Interrail, & my final train home to Chesterfield, onboard the EMR 21:02 from London St Pancras International to Sheffield. Great service as always from the EMR first class host, with plenty of cups of tea plus a few sweet treats. 🛤️

After relaxing in a cafe in Bruxelles-Midi, it was time go through security & passport control before boarding my Eurostar back to London St Pancras International. While I personally preferred my outbound meal in Eurostar Plus it was still welcome. Before I knew it I was back in London. 🇬🇧

Then it was time for my final @bahn.de ICE of my Interrail. With a ICE 3neo taking me from Köln Hbf on ICE 14, the 15:41 to Bruxelles-Midi, going all the way! 🚄💨
As with my journey on ICE 17 six days earlier, my ICE 3neo was one with the very nice new ICE interior & seats. 💺

While I had missed some connections, I still had some time in Köln before my next train to Brussels. Given the time I had it made total sense to go & visit the equally massive & beautiful Kölner Dom, Hohe Domkirche Sankt Petrus!

With the post midday departure this made for the perfect time to get some lunch in the ICE @diningcar.at. Of cause I had to order the Currywurst, & got a Krombacher Spezi cola & orange mix with a @deutschebahn.com branded glass. 🍽️

Unfortunately due to ICE 76 being delayed using the old route north of Basel rather than via the faster Katzenberg Tunnel, resulted in me missing my connection at Mannheim Hbf onto ICE 200 to Köln Hbf. Instead I got ICE 578 as far as Frankfurt(Main)Flughafen Fernbahnhof on another ICE 4 XXL.

The shenanigans in the middle of the day aside, I had a great day travelling around the Swiss rail network for the first time. All the trains were comfortable & well presented inside & out, plus of cause the stunning Swiss alpine scenery outside the train window! Certainly will be back. 🚆🏔️🇨🇭

My next train was an SBB RABDe 500 INC tilting train which are predominately used on IC 5 with me traveling on service 1534 from Winterthur as far as Olten. I managed to find one the first class 'business compartments' of 4 seats empty. The first class seats on these ICNs are certainly comfy! 💺

The time had come to depart Zürich onboard 12 coaches of double deck goodness, with this pair of RABe 511 KISS' 511 050 & 511 010 on IR 13 service 3279 as far as Winterthur for the next leg of my Switzerland train day. 🚉
