These three books were what I read, among essays and articles, in an undergrad biblical prophecy class. Really helped me understand everything that’s happening in that section of scripture and made me more open to the prophets so once I got to seminary, I was ready to engage with their voices.

Reading this book for a class project and I thought I’d just end up skimming it for a better understanding so I could write up a few short sentences about it and connect it with the review I found…I’m now 6 chapters and I’m gripped, terrifyingly so, by the horror Shetterly describes in this book.

Sometimes I flip open “Loves Redeeming Work: An Anglican Quest For Holiness” to a random page for some meditation before a long day. This passage from Jeremy Taylor’s “Holy Living” was what I saw today and I thought I would share it. It helped me feel better about my recent church attendance. ⚓️

Not how I would personally describe myself (I’m more of a Puseyite tractarian if anything) but a fun little thing to learn I agree with Temple! ⚓️

Blessed Feast of E.B. Pusey, a Tractarian of the Oxford Movement. His doctrine of the Eucharist is, IMO, closest to mine own as explained in his own words (from: "A Companion on Anglican Eucharistic Theology Vol. 1" ed. Brian Douglas. Brill (London, 2012). p 571) ⚓️

Ahh! Look what I found in a previously gone through pile of books! My late father’s copy of Hatchett’s Commentary on the American Prayerbook! (Pls ignore the tattered interlinear RSV, I got it used and need to get it rebound). So if anyone needs references, I gotchu! ⚓️

Sang “Lift high the cross”, heard a sermon that spoke to my heart in a way I could never have imagined (many little instances of yes can make a big difference) got some gently used books at a parish book sale stall at the parish kickoff picnic! Couldn’t ask for a better start to my Sunday!

In case you’re wondering what I do at the library!

Support your local library everyone! I have found a deep love of cooking and the beginnings of a journey in baking. It provides me with such joy! For those who don’t know, my marital strife led me into a deep depression. However, this has helped.

Looking at starting a young adult group by the fall of this year at my parish, mostly out of a desire for community for myself and others. Does this feel like an appropriate start to send to my rector or should I add more? ⚓️

Okay so I just received word about how they do it:

Here’s a small sampling! Let me know if it’s the kinda thing you’d want to showcase! It’s mainly an introduction to a select small group of seminal texts in liberation theology for those entering a theological library where such a thing would be new to them. Made in Canva w/ a zine template!

Posted these on Instagram but these are my bedside books ATM! Including one cookbook that I’m currently reading through. What’re y’all’s current reads? I’m trying to read a little bit every night. (Fun fact: “The Marriage Proposal” is the first fiction book I’ve picked up and started since college)

This is Part of an advocacy resource I’m making for one of my library classes! I’m making several inclusive flyers for a hypothetical theological library including LGBT, disability, and other liberation theologies! Any additional ideas are definitely welcome from the Narthex! ⚓️

Apropos of absolutely nothing going on in the world, I picked this up at my local library and the stories and food shared in this book make my heart ache now. It’s a fantastic description of Palestinian culture and cuisine and well worth the time to go cover to cover.

New book I’m listening to. Hampton Sides’ book on the colonialism of the Polynesian Islands and the last journey of James Cook. NYT listed it as a top 10 book of 2024 and as someone with an interest in how imperialism affected the pacific islands, particularly Aotearoa, I thought I’d give it a try.

Stephanie Foo’s “What My Bones Know” is a top ten book of all time for me. Her memoir approach to talking about C-PTSD has taught me as much about myself, my past, and my future, as anyone else ever could hope to. She has a quote from her therapist at one point that hit me like a ton of bricks.

So my essay on a simple hymn MAY be getting out of hand…(not pictured: the book on Divine Love I ordered via interlibrary loan) 😹

CW: suicide

Wanted to say that I was cleaning out some books and found this old copy of “What Does The Bible Say About Suicide” from the late James T. Clemons. An essential book for pastoral care in my opinion. As someone whose undergrad thesis was on this topic I highly recommend this book.

Merely a day after posting this, I find out there’s a new book on Handel’s Messiah and its social and political place in history. ⚓️

New book thanks to InterLibrary Loan (many thanks to Campbell University Library!). Great text, only qualm is that it has endnotes rather than footnotes. I want to cite all of the quotes properly in my own notes but flipping back and forth is becoming arduous lol. ⚓️
