Look at this shit. It's making good hardware needlessly obsolete at massive expense to *every human who needs to use computers* and the environment too. It's not just incompetence - given the ouroboros of investments in big tech, it is tantamount to racketeering. Why isn't govt on this like a hawk?

A large table that you roll on multiple times to assemble the characteristics of your sea monster. The last column suggests how you might prepare it for dinner, e.g. "Lungs grated over a bed of fried chicken livers." Mmm! Finger-licking good!

It's an irregularly shaped splodge of an island, with many bays and promontories, rising to a sparsely inhabited volcanic centre, labelled "Mind-Your-Back-Country" for very good reason. There are three rival settlements called Plymouth, or some variant thereon, due to bitter infighting among the early colonists over the distribution of salt pork. How many will be left standing once the players are done with the place?

So Google is now going to hold existing features hostage until I let them smear my account in AI dogshit. Where's the third option to immediately launch an FTC antitrust suit?
Modal pop up that offers me two options: turn on AI and regain access to features I already had, like flight itinerary integration in Calendar or file suggestions in Drive search, or turn off AI and lose them.

There are a lot of things wrong with Monopoly as a game but none of them are "lack of cow semen".
Excerpt from the Museum of English Rural Life's description of a real boardgame from 1986 with the remarkable title of "Grade Up to Elite Cow": "This extraordinary game saw players attempt to ‘grade up’ their imaginary dairy cattle to pedigree status via Monopoly-style gameplay. They navigated the board collecting semen to improve their herd and in doing so it was hoped that real farmers might feel encouraged to focus on livestock breeding. The game was sponsored by different agents in the dairy sector, including semen suppliers, insurance companies, animal feed producers, and banks. The proceeds supported the Young Members Association of the British Friesian Cattle Society."

Does anybody know what this is about? Zooming in on Auchterawe, Scotland in Google Maps, the little Street View man turns into a dinosaur. But only at some zoom levels and only here.

Chatted about @hauntedtable.bsky.social's superb corporate-horror game Triangle Agency in the latest newsletter. We had to censor it on pain of having our access to the Agency froyo room revoked, but that just means you have to play the game itself—and you should!

On the one hand we can laugh at the naivety of applying a genAI glow-up to a sculpture (based on a skull which was missing its face) and being blown away by how "modern" the image looks, but on the other hand this is genAI laundering bad history and adding a dash of ethno-fascism to boot.

Whether she had blue eyes or not, I do not for sure know, but I do know that the far right is keen to manufacture a whiter ethnic continuity from the ancient world. A sculptural reconstruction of the Mycenaen woman, made in the 1980s at Manchester University. It is, again, speculative because the skull was missing much of its face.
