My view is that if anonymous online cruelty sways people, politics becomes a bot-count contest. You can’t “out-nice” that. At that point, people have to be expected to withstand it and do the right thing. And honestly, criticism comes with the job. Everyone in public-facing work deals with it.

We shouldn’t undermine integrity out of fear that people will feel too ashamed of themselves to do the right thing.

Russia has “elections”. It makes way more sense to rig them than to stop them.

The people can’t just say legitimate elections will happen, they need to get involved to make sure of it. Our elections are only as good as our volunteers. You know who shows up from my experience? The right.

They killed two elected officials and blew up a judges house. They also said “this is the second American revolution and it will be bloodless if the left allows it to be.” In July 2024. They don’t believe what they are saying, it’s war tactics (FUD) they are using as a threat and blame trap.

Do it anyways and 25 “non political” people will show up to tell you that you take life too seriously.

There’s no such thing as non partisan. When people say they are you should look at the actions they take and their outcomes to see what side they are actually on.

We shouldn’t want the impossibility of non partisans. We should want fighters for the working class.

It’s not logic. It’s simple: If provocation justifies harm, then harm is always justified. That would be the logic behind their thinking. It’s an incentive system where threatening violence gets rewarded. It’s political money-laundering. So if they insist on playing that game, then let’s play.

This is absolutely it.

The people need something from their leaders to make them believe it will make any difference besides straddling them in debt.

Right now the signal is that no one will save you if you withhold taxes. Power will just let you rot in debt and use you for politics.

The old rulebook of law and order is gone. What we have is more like selective enforcement theater. So this is not a norms based system any longer.

A lot to unpack with this one. I do think they are making fun of American culture and its people while also using them to exploit and destroy the post WWII world order and not seriously planning to export America everywhere.
