There will be a huge brain drain to other countries - generations of scientists and researchers lost, and innumerable deaths, unnecessary suffering, and lack of needed services.

I personally know people who have had their grants revoked. I personally know people whose institutions are severely curtailing research operations. I personally know people who have lost their jobs.

This is all work that has been peer-reviewed and deemed worthy of funding.
