Wow. This speech by Claude Malhuret (who I admit I know nothing about) actually makes my skin prickle. Not exactly fun, but it does make me think: We can do this. And I hope Canada, Australia and more will join us thebulletin.org/2025/03/for-...
For this French senator, Trump is a traitor—and Europe is now alone
In one month, Trump has done more harm to the Atlantic alliance than in four years of his last presidency. Europeans now see him as a traitor.

The Trump plan for Ukraine is like the Trump plan for Gaza, Greenland or Panama: ownership, exploitation and extraction. America is no longer our ally, it is turning into an exploitative imperial power.

Given the overheated hype on AI this BBC item should give food for thought. For those old enough to remember GIGO in the early days of IT there may be echoes here.

When you see the Vasa in place, you realize why it sank, or more literally fell over. I always wondered how many other nations would have left it on the bottom!

Earlier this week, Bret Stephens, a house conservative at the New York Times wrote a particularly terrible piece titled “Done With Never Trump.” @therickwilson.bsky.social wrote a reply to Bret. Never Trump means Never Trump. If you agree, please share it widely.

MS: It's Labour that wasted £710m by scrapping Rwanda.
KB: No, stop it. You couldn't send anyone there in 3 years.
MS: We were on the brink.
KB: Course you were.
MS: The planes were booked. There were migrants waiting in France for a Labour gov't.

Utterly ludicrous, gaslighting popinjay. ~AA

Lots of new people on here this morning. I'll do a quick intro.

I write about social affairs, health, housing, education and the like for a whole load of print and digital newspapers and I'm on the rolling panel for @ohgodwhatnow.bsky.social.

Here are some pieces from the last year:
I’m about to be made homeless at 74 - my pension won't cover rent somewhere else
The number of older people without secure housing is rising sharply, up by more than 50 per cent in just four years, finds Hannah Fearn

The British media need to stop treating Trump and his campaign like this is all normal. It's bad enough that American democracy is powerless to stop him. What his presidency would mean to the world needs to be forcefully spelled out. These are extraordinary times and the ordinary rules do not apply.

Musk is a threat to democracy and anything he owns should be approached as such. Including the other place.

My first post! (As opposed to reply) as on observer from the middle of Europe I am shocked by the latest Starmer policy shift on the 28bn. I understand the « don’t scare the horses » approach to policy, but doesn’t this risk many more voters moving to the greens? Which probably only helps tories.
