On mountains and sense of scale: the climber here is on top of Mt Adams, 37 miles away from Mt St Helens, that debris cloud in the second picture is something like 10 to 12 miles wide.

Happy #FossilFriday, check out the skull of Protoreodon! While the top of the skull is somewhat crushed, the teeth are overall well-preserved; take a look those cute little canines! This little animal is an ancient and distant relative to modern artiodactyls, such as deer and cattle.
