I know this is a crazy conspiracy theory, but part of me could believe that the botched and awful US response to Covid was that it was indeed clearing up those Medicare rolls.

Such a great read. Have you tried Pulkkinen’s TRUE? Similar vibe. Not quite as compelling. But a wild mash-up of Finnish mythology and modern trauma.
