Mid 50s, ex BMX racer, chair bound job so pedaling away on a road bike to keep the grim reaper at bay.
Signed up to the 2025 Etape Du Tour De France after abject failure to complete the 2024 version.
Turbo races really don't get any easier.

This nails a lot of what we see in the news.
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

Ballot entry in for the Fred Whitton Challenge in May. Fingers crossed.

Today's my birthday, which means October is nearly over and winter training begins in earnest. Targeted weight reduction until end of March then intensity ramps up.

Have picked the Fred Whitton challenge as next year's target. As long as I can get an entry.

Damn, I wish I was doing the Etape this year. Stacked with iconic climbs.

If she's coming near you, go and see Grace Petrie's new show.

Guess what.

Number collected, briefing attended, pizza eaten. Just a good night's sleep to achieve and we're off!

Am not liking the preponderance of large, flat billed caps at the expo village of the Etape du Tour de France. These cyclists can't ALL be Red Hot Chilli fans surely.

Being in a valley in the Alps means having a 360 view of amazingness.

Sunday is D-Day, so packing today as early flight tomorrow.
Feel confident that I am better than last year and have the figures to prove it. In the last year I have:
Dropped weight to 87kg, not goal but lightest I've been for a good while.
Ridden 5392km
Climbed 56,102m, over 6 times up Everest.

Vital part of the equipment for this weekend's Etape du Tour de France. @nedboulting.bsky.social podcast has accompanied my turbo efforts in prep for this.

Started the taper with a very easy 30km this morning. 20km tomorrow, race on Tuesday night then another 20km on Wednesday. Thursday is packing and train to airport before flying on Friday. Feel ready.

Doing something right, PB for the second week in a row, (only by 2secs but I'll take it).

Sports massage. For those times when you want a tiny Thai woman to take away your ability to walk.

Good result at the local 10mile timetrial last night. Sub 26mins was the target for the end of the summer so was very pleased to hit it early.

Exactly 1 month to go before the big day. Could do with more weight coming off but the power seems to be getting there.

THAT WAS INCREDIBLE!! #Giroditalia
May 31, 2025 at 2:49 PM
Watching today's Giro was not unlike the battle scenes in the Last Kingdom which the wife and I are binging. Carapaz swung a massive battle ax at everyone whilst Yates slid a knife slowly into del Toro's ribs, the rest of the field littered with bodies.

It's a cold. Better now than closer to the Etape I guess.
May 27, 2025 at 3:47 PM
Damn it. Is this a cold or just hay-fever? Can train with one but not the other.

My daughter's directorial debut, well worth a look if you're a Cambridge local.

Why spend £100 on a fancy chain waxing system when you have a music stand in the house.
May 8, 2025 at 1:28 PM
Longest ride for a while, 125km in 4:40 so I'll take it.
