Hi #EduRunners, 7k today and i don’t know how I am going to cope back in the UK when I can’t finish with a coffee and a Lao-style banh mi!

Late to it and lots of interesting choices already but nobody has mentioned Stewart Foster’s All the Things that could go Wrong. Great unlikely friendship story. Also worth the classic The Whsipering Mountain by Joan Aiken has a friendship at its heart as well as much more besides. #KidLitUK

Looking at the @theguardian.com live test and reminded that there is a good reason that the baseball study is the most famous example of background knowledge aiding comprehension.

Classic 5K around the artificial lake in #Vientiane.

Actually a bit cooler than in has been but I still end up looking like a beetroot and the iced coffee is very much needed!

It’s been my theme of the week. Did you see the @teachertapp.bsky.social questions on it? This result surprised a few!

Dunking on people is not my style but I will make a slight exception here...Garvey is on here and his bio is a pathetic attempt to get people to come back to X because he got no traction here. Would love to know his theory of how Musk comes to not be in charge of *the platform he owns*.

Thar she blows!

A shame that his reported behaviour casts a bit of a shadow over all his work but The Graveyard Book is a brilliantly rich text (and not that scary!). #KidsBookFriday #KidLitUK

A fun little activity relevant to levelled readers. Take a look these two pictures and tell me which level you think they both are. #EduSkyPrimary

If you know someone who would like to be #Bluesky ‘s 40 millionth user, tell them to grab their phone right now!

Going to be 40 million in the next few days….might be a good time to ask your friends to join.

Now that made by think of Cogheart by @peterbunzl.bsky.social! Also, just a wonderful novel incorporating adventure and deeper questions. It seems I need steampunk to get me out of reading slumps…

Loads of great choices already! Would have said Podkin if it hadn’t already gone but am instead going to pick Brightstorm by Vashti Hardy. Classic scenario coupled with wonderful world building and there are great sequels to it as well.

Well, it was a long drive but worth it for this!

Also, very excited to have just received these @daisychristo.bsky.social back catalogue classics. You can thank / blame @adamboxereducation.bsky.social for regularly saying on his podcast that every teacher should have read Seven Myths About Education!

This was one of the “unhinged” literary opinions I endorsed earlier and, quite by chance, this book arrived today. It’s short but packed with absolute zingers. #KidLit

One book which I have found that a lot of dyslexic and struggling readers have enjoyed is Race to the Frozen North by Catherine Johnson. (Reading age 8 but targeted at readers a couple of years older).

This is part of a interesting thread from @suchmo83.bsky.social at the other place on why a further phonics check at Year 3 would not be a good idea. I agree with him on that although schools should have their own ways of monitoring and helping children whose phonics knowledge is still weak.

One my daughter loved with some strong messages and themes.

It’s easy to see why there were 3 Marks in my class at school and none in any class now!
September 16, 2025 at 6:31 AM
You already took some of my favourite authors (check out their other books as well!) but I would definitely nominate The Letter for the King. A straightforwardly told but thrilling adventure that some kids have loved.

This by @samfr.bsky.social absolutely nails the madness of government comms going out on X.
