A big retrograde step from Google and one delivered with precious little transparency. Very disappointing.
Google has announced that it is de-prioritising fact checks.

This means reliable fact checks from credible organisations might get buried deeper in your search results.

We’re seeing an exponential rise in manipulated AI content masquerading as genuine footage - particularly around big news events.
An image of severely damaged planes has been shared online with claims it shows Tel Aviv’s airport after being attacked by Iran.

But this picture isn’t real. It’s a screenshot of a video that has likely been created with artificial intelligence.
