From the Economist:
Candidates who do not support the peaceful transfer of power, or reject the results of fair elections, should not be able to run for president. This seems obvious, but it is not written down clearly in America’s constitution, or established by legal precedents. In Brazil it is.

Doesn’t it seem odd that the US Senate is not up in arms about the number of people who lied under oath when nominated for positions in the administration?

While I am a big fan of Apple products and I realize why Tim Cook had to do what he did this week in the White House but what a swamp it is in the White House today.
August 9, 2025 at 11:00 PM
Truly it’s time to “drain the swamp” in DC. Starting with every Congress person and Senator who voted for the Big Terrible Bill. Every one of these people are NOT looking out for the best interests of ALL citizens of the USA.

Alaska….senator Lisa Murkowski sold you out for back room deals that don’t amount to much at all.

Thank goodness for one sane person in the US Senate…the Parliamentarian! She has accomplished what no other Senators had the gravitas to do.

The 'Big Beautiful Bill' keeps getting uglier:
Treasured Public Lands on the Auction Block in Trump's 'Big Beautiful Bill'
A Senate provision in Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill puts millions of acres of recreation lands up for sale to the highest bidder.

If Congress approves the sale of the Public Lands proposed, every single person in Congress who approves that sale will be replaced by popular vote.

ICE raided a small company in Durango, Colorado yesterday and took away 5 working employees of this granite installer company. Why is ICE wasting tax payer dollars to go after gainfully employed workers who pay taxes and contribute to the local economy? This is WRONG in so many ways.

“I don’t know.”

— President Trump, when asked during an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press with Kristen Welker” whether he needs to uphold the Constitution, three months after swearing an oath to do so.

It’s time don’t you think?

Even little Durango, CO showed up big time despite the snowfall.

I’m guessing the captains of industry (Cook, Bezos, and many others) are wondering why they bothered cozying up to Trump now. Truly a waste of their time and money.

Paul Erdman said it best this morning. “Like tens of millions of Americans, I hate the fact that we need to appeal to foreign leaders to do the right thing, because we know that our own president won’t. But this is Europe’s moment, and we can only hope that the continent’s leaders seize it.”

Thank you Liz Cheney! We need you now more than ever!

“History will remember this day—when an American President and Vice President abandoned all we stand for.”

Clearly, it is time to impeach and convict Trump. If the Republican senators were paralyzed by him before they need to take action now before there is no Senate or government at all.

Thread: Each week I run a simulation of Australia’s main electricity grid using rescaled generation data to show that it can get very close to 100% renewable electricity with 24GW/120GWh of storage (5 hrs at av demand)
Results:
Last week: 100% RE
Last 183 weeks: 98.7% RE (1/5)

Despite the blowout that was the Super Bowl, the NFL gets my award for their constant display of goodness and humanity. The Lady Gaga piece on Bourbon Street and Brad Pitt’s intro to this Super Bowl are just two examples. Cheers to the NFL in these challenging times.

The quote below is indicative as to why Republicans in the Senate are not aghast over Trump and Musk’s actions:

To my friends who are upset, I would say with respect, ‘Call somebody who cares,’” Republican Senator John Kennedy said Monday on Fox News.

Shocking! The 2025 Blueprint that our President disavowed during his campaign is the template he is following now. Once a liar, always a liar.

@chiproy.bsky.social Chip Roy….please keep standing up to our so-called President who does not stand for anything consistent. He will say whatever it takes to stay in the news. Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney and you need to team up, bring the Party back to being a responsible and respectable force.

I sure hope Pete Buttigieg has a strong future in our national politics. He is surely one of the brightest younger political minds we have.

As Trump & his subordinates continue to walk back & renige on one campaign promise after another, MAGA can take comfort in knowing that Trump didn’t mean any of it & was only saying that shit to win the election so he can stay out of prison & further enrich himself & his friends.
