Grinnell, where I’ve been for the last five months, has a spate of public parks that no one seems to know much about. I found this one between a cemetery and a trailer park.

Tonight’s my last night in California. My time here was hard and I don’t have a lot of pics. I do have this one: it’s a tree I met when it was an accidental sapling, a weed. I wouldn’t let anyone kill it. I hope it’s safe without me.

Over the Christmas break, our daughter introduced us to Switzer Falls. It’s up by Altadena, and firmly in the burn zone. It’s been a weird few days, being thankful for our safety but also mourning the loss of treasured haunts.

I attended a service at St. Luke’s Episcopal in Monrovia, CA today. Not my usual church but I did sing in an all-male evensong service there last fall; here’s a pic:

I’m moving to Iowa in January (I know: that’s probably the worst time). I visited the Capitol building grounds while there for my interview; what else is there to see and do between Des Moines and Iowa City?
