Slight or moderate, occasionally rough. Showers. Good.

A view of Castell Maenorbŷr/Manorbier Castle, looking from the beach. I swear I once saw a Dartford warbler in the bushes here, even though it's busy with people, dogs and kids all year round.

The fire is going. My tea is in the oven. I have a glass of something agreeable to hand. And Ireland v South Africa is almost upon us. Marvellous.

Currently showing on Film 4 in the UK is The Caine Mutiny, starring Humphrey Bogart.

Any Dwarfers know the connection between the film and Babysham adverts in the 70s?

Thought I'd start the day with some soundtrack music. According to the streaming service, the first song on the Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings is Windmills of Your Mind by Noel Harrison. I've seen those LotR films more than once, and don't recall this being on it. What's happening?

On this day in 1957, Лáйка (Laika), a street dog from Moscow, died in order to:

1) further Soviet space and military aims, and;
2) provide a line in a Divine Comedy song decades later.

RIP, Space Dog.

Just went outside to assess the weather. Lower-down clouds are coming in from the north, higher ones the west. Dark clouds, looking like they are bringing snow, are ominously covering a third of the sky. Meanwhile a rainbow is visible. No wonder weather forecasters have difficulties.

Died on this day in 1537, the Queen of England and third wife of Henry VIII.

Here's where I paused for a breather on my jog round the lily ponds this morning.

Out and about earlier, I saw some low-key advertising for the next Gary Oldman/Apple TV series.

Doesn't sound great, TBH.

Last night we had one of the highest tides of the year. The signpost in the photo below shows where a bridleway runs. The second photo shows the route of the path to the village pub which was, unsurprisingly, cut off for a few hours.

My sister-in-law sent me this so that I don't go forgetting my roots, now that I no longer live in Derbyshire.

If they'd filmed the final scenes of The Italian Job in Pembrokeshire, this place would have been swamped with cameras and actors and make-up people and that.

Inspired by a GCN video, I changed my routine and went for an early bike ride. I discovered that on Saturday mornings, last week's holidaymakers have gone home, and next week's haven't arrived yet. So you get the place to yourself. Apart from other cyclists. Swarms of 'em.
