The werecat family featured in my books are all native Poles or members of the Polish diaspora--the latter alumni of Catholic schools themselves.

"The Fitz" went down fifty years ago this past November 10. Me and mine have not forgotten. I've stood at Whitefish Point gazing out over the lake toward the crew's final resting place. Yet another turn of Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald."

Yes, I know. During my time at Lake State I interned with the US Army Corps of Engineers at the Soo Locks. I was out on several pieces of their floating plant on the St. Marys River and out onto Lake Superior. Ran into some weather too which was plenty scary (inspired one of the scenes in my books.)

So it ought not come as any surprise that my books include a number of Great Lakes nautical themes and settings, remote island hideways, ice hockey at the pro and amateur level, and loooooots of Polish food. SMACZNEGO! 😋

I grew up in the Detroit area on the Macomb County/St. Clair county border. Parents/grandparents taking my brother and me on trips to "the city" usually meant Port Huron or Mt. Clemens. Family cabin on Bois Blanc Island, went to college in the Soo, my wife and I were married on Mackinac Island.

Or 16 or 20. Which I know you and yours have plenty of there at IRM. ❤️ I used to turn wrenches on several like them back when I lived in Minnesota.
