legitimately i think one of the core failings of centrist pundits is that they have come to define themselves by what they are against--to chart their intellectual course by who they think is being annoying this week--instead of by recourse to genuine principle

Man kā rūgta nāve ir apriebusies tā apelēšana pie "citāda viedokļa" un viedokļa citādības kā kaut kādas no no kritikas aizsargājamas kategorijas, ar ko apiet diskusiju par pašu viedokļa saturu. Kaut kāds līdzīgs red herring kā apelēšana pie vārda brīvības, it kā to kāds aiztiek.

The whole concept of government shutdown is pretty wild, actually. I think in most countries when you don't pass a budget you just continue with the previous one, or trigger a snap election.
