Long time delayed book and pint! I've actually just finished the book, which I would massively recommend to anyone and everyone. It is a beautiful story of reverence and the value we ascribe to ordinary items.

When you host a dark beer event and commit to the bit a little too hard 🖤

In case you don't already have enough reason to come, I made imperial stout brownies using Bellwoods' I'm Not Dead 😏

Very excited for our Donnie's and Dark Beer Event tomorrow. Such a fun variety of styles, really showcasing the versatility of the darker side of beer.

We've been shouting about this alot on Insta etc. but thought I'd at least pop something on here too.

Super fun event this Friday, both a launch party for our permanent line of @donzokobeer.bsky.social's Donnies and a celebration of all different kinds of dark beer.

Pint and book! Already a fair way through Flowers for Algernon, it's easy to see why it's a bit of a classic in the sci-fi genre. Touching and difficult to read in places, but certainly one I will be making lots of references to in the future. The beer is a festbier from @donzokobeer.bsky.social

just found my first grey hair.

Friday book and pint. Termush is a very short book that starts off as dystopian fiction but seems to bleed into an allegory for fascism/authoritarianism. It's very prescient. The pint is Dryad by Neepsend, which has not unpleasant peach cordial flavours.

In case you were worried that my insta account would be too sanitised, for work reasons, it took me barely any time at all to start slagging off capitalism. So normal service is resumed.

House brick sized cobs for £1 a go from the Wellington on Shalesmoor. Choose from a filling choice of Cheese&Onion/Potted Meat/Potted Meat&Onion/Beef Dripping 🙏

Pint and Book! I'm reading Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K Dick. It's very good and far better than I expected after being whelmed by Bladerunner as a film. The beer is Blue Bee 5 Hop #82 which has Blue Bee's signature bitterness, accompanied by heavy floral notes.

A quick stop at the Highland Laddie in Leeds for a pint of dubby d to break up the trip home.

Thinking of @carolinedebenh1.bsky.social who will be simply delighted to hear how much I'm enjoying my sparkled pint of Harvey's Sussex Best in København, Halifax.

A half of Goose Eye - Chinnok in the Grayson Unity. It is absolutely delicious to the point where I might stay for another half. Gorgeous piney bitterness throughout.

Back in Halifax today. Starting off at the absolutely stunning Three Pigeons with a pint of bitter shandy.
September 7, 2025 at 11:23 AM
A few miles down the road in Mytholmroyd now and in the lovely Barbary's drinking a well earned pint of Marble Brewery's Manc Pitter. Another couple of miles up to Hebden Bridge after this.

Weekend away in West Yorkshire, starting off in Halifax and slowly making our way over to Hebden Bridge on foot

We'll do well to get another beer as good as this half of Rudgate Ruby Mild in the Big Six.

A couple of weeks ago I made plum jam using some plums from a friend's garden. I've just polished off the final remains of it with this cake. The sponge is fairly traditional with added orange zest and cinammon.

Me going to the shops this morning: I'll just grab something simple. I've got work later and I don't want to spend my whole day cooking.

Also me: buys and roasts a whole duck
