I'm an optometrist who also has an interest in social justice and the arts. I like reading, relaxing in parks, joking with friends, and dreaming of a better world.

Our brains need sustained breaks from anxiety-inducing material. I'm not saying to stop being cautious. (I mask at work and in most crowded spaces.) However, stress/anxiety are also really not healthy for the long term, as I know you know being a fellow medical professional.

I mean this with all love and kindness, but I think that a break from social media could be very healthy for you. I am not judging; I am in treatment for mental health, and my therapist routinely suggests that I "unplug" from the constant deluge of negativity in the world. It's helpful.

People are social by nature, and if they don't feel accepted by leftist organizations (and people who promote themselves as leftists), then they will continue to gravitate to the right. Most people will be willing to learn and grow if they feel welcome. (2/2)
