The centrepiece of the last night’s concert was definitely explosante-fixe, though I was structured by Nono’s A Pierre. A few months ago I heard a performance of this, which I found terribly boring. But I was wrong—it’s so amazing how good electronics can transform the impression of a work!

Another pleasant evening with Mondorian Ensemble. The programme focusing on the works of Finnish composers was well thought out and fascinating. All studied and/or taught at Sibelius Academy.

Today’s concert at Gare du Nord Basel was away more than expected! Ligeti’s Macabre arranged by Howarth was so hilarious, gripping and brilliant. What a performance! I also loved Chin’s piece. Bravo for the program and Phoenix, Sven Schildknecht and Jürg Henneberher!

I’m having a pretty packed and exciting time in Basel and had an excellent visit to Lisbon last week, where I attended a conference. I haven’t had the energy to post anything recently, but I shall continue to take notes on the concerts I attend. A wonderful evening with Ensemble Nickel. Bravo!

So lovely to come back to Basel. After an intense but good start of my research stay at the Paul Sacher Stiftung, I visited the Fondation Beyeler. The exhibition on Northern lights was somehow appropriate for my current focus on Kaija Saariaho. I also enjoyed the feeling of spring in the garden.

What a fascinating programme with an interesting contrast! The performance by Klangforum Wien and PPCM members was tight, emotional and exciting, as always.

Following young friends in Graz, I’m joining the protest against the Steiermark’s funding cut for cultural sectors including performing arts and music. #KulturlandRetten

Another brilliant concert this time by Kandinsky SQ on day 3. A visually as well as acoustically delightful, playful work by Iannotta, followed by an thrilling acousmatic listening experience of Haas' intense sound world in complete darkness. Bravo!

Impuls Day 2. A huge bravo to Chaos String Quartet! What an incredible programme with a subtle but dynamic performance!

Feeling energiesed after hearing the talents of young musicians in PPCM (Performance Practice in Contemporary Music) at KUG. It was far beyond the level of a class concert!

Wonderful evening watching Saariaho‘s Innocence in Musiktheater im Revier Girsenkirchen. The performance of the choir (Chorwerk Ruhr) was especially exquisite and so well integrated into the production. What a powerful opera.

Concerts that I went to during the last quarter of 2024 were pretty amazing, most memorable including those in which I witnessed the premiere of works of Clara lannotta and Bernhard Lang as well as the live performances of Merzbow and Ryoji Ikeda. The first in 2025 is this!
