Hello, my name is [redacted]. I live in New York State and my zip code is [redacted]. I’m faxing you today (because you fail to have a voicemail which your constituents may use to contact you outside of business hours, which is the only time many working people would be physically able to do so) in order to say that the Senator must vote against cloture, and he must vote against a budget that does nothing to stop Elon Musk’s access to our government systems, while it is defunding the programs that protect our vulnerable population. There is no playing ball with this administration. And, importantly, I know that the Senator is aware of this! Because he essentially said as much only yesterday, which turned out to be an overt lie as the Senator backpedaled and folded to the regime after less than twenty four hours, betraying his constituents and proving himself unreliable and cowardly. The Senator, while speaking with Chris Hayes, said that “[Republicans] are already doing it without this CR,” “it” meaning an unconstitutional assault on the government, but if the Senator acknowledges the truth of that, it should be even MORE cause to fight against them. If the Senator knows that the current regime is causing destruction, why would he want to make that process easier? The Senator seems to believe that there will be pieces left to pick up someday, down the road, and his high ground will help him. But this is not that situation. The Senator needs to acknowledge the reality that this bill will cause untold destruction to the actual structure of our government and our country if allowed to pass. The Senator needs to acknowledge that there will be consequences if he fails to fight for his constituents, and instead bends the knee to his political adversaries. If the Senator votes with them he will be just as guilty as those with active malice of betraying our country. We elected Senator Schumer to fight FOR us, not against us. Considering his behavior in recent days, I do not EXPECT the Senator to do the proper or moral thing in voting against this bill and voting against cloture, but I do expect this: If Senator Schumer chooses to vote “yes” on either the spending bill OR on cloture, he will never be forgiven. There are younger, braver, and more principled Democrats that will step up in the Senator’s place if he fails, and we will vote for them over a Senator who lies to our faces and fails to step up to the plate when the situation is this dire. Vote No on this CR. Vote no on cloture. Do not fail New Yorkers or the rest of the people of the United States.
