This was storytelling perfection capturing the beauty and healing to be found in mundanity. My 14yo daughter loved it too. A life affirming elixir, especially for those starting afresh post divorce.

Picked this up at the big Tesco @chrischibnall.bsky.social. It was brilliant! Loved all the characters and their interwoven lives. I found the sentence structure a bit hard to follow initially, probably because the author writes for TV, but got used to the staccato short sentences. Unputdownable!

I watched this & the obstinacy of man (esp. of my fellow countrymen & women!)is simultaneously a marvel and a tragedy. Beautiful scenery & stellar recreation of perilous mountaineering. Slow moving which was a pleasure with today's info. overload, but the tense music score was a little clichéd.

Beautiful words from Elif Shafak in her essay "Storyland" in the World of Interiors mag. Akin to the wistfulness I carry for Warsaw.

'We do not leave our motherlands behind (...) They seep into our dreams, they reside in the silences of our sentences; they are there, in those tiny, lonely gaps.'

Biographies linked with publications show that mothers reach peak scholarly productivity later in life, declining until children reach school age, while fathers experience no change. The time costs of raising the baby boom generation led to a loss of female scientists thru failure to achieve tenure.

I also disagreed with Bryson's anti self publishing stance.
In defence of self-publishing
Bill Bryson claims that self-published books are ‘of no interest’. He’s wrong. The industry creates barriers that many simply want to avoid.
