hahaha I did personally submit a lot of breweries to this map after a very sad floor change at strange fellows :(

The logic seemed to be that maintaining them is significantly costly. This might be true (though I'm skeptical how much maintenance budget is dedicated specifically and solely to change tables)...but as you say removing them will also be costly, in both $$ and social costs. It's not worth it.

Yes! Linked in my thread. I love that map and have used it many times - thank you @michellecyca.com!

Change tables are already frustratingly hard to come by in this city thanks to the fact we choose not to require them anywhere, as if babies are not people who deserve washroom facilities..being able to rely on them at city and park board facilities is hugely important and plain stupid to cut.

🥹 so glad we got past version 1 of that logo. perhaps one day the time will come for an upgrade...but we're ok with being a little scrappy around here.

Maloney is asking Chief Rai how much it costs to investigate traffic fatalities. Rai says it's as much or more as a homicide.

Frustrated is one word…to be totally honest I’m furious! Genuinely thought this one was a no-brainer 🫠

That’s too bad. I’m certainly supportive of parent-led WSBs and Bike Buses. It’s fantastic when it works. But having a paid model available is great for accessibility and takes the burden off the parents/PAC.

Yep, that’s exactly how it works! Most caregivers with kids in our Walking School Bus program do not participate. Some who have the time do volunteer, but it’s optional.

In the case of the Walking School Bus, we have lots of families who participate because it helps fill a childcare and logistics gap for them, not because of a special enthusiasm for active transportation.

Here in BC we have the paid-leader model of Bike Bus led by @wearehub.bsky.social and Walking School Bus by Society for Children and Youth. In this model, a non-profit org. hires and trains paid staff that lead the bus. I think it reduces a lot of barriers for participation and increases access
