Bureaucratic politics explanation for ICE arrests: 1) they arrest people for whom they have data, i.e. those who comply with requests for info from the govt; 2) they go for easy arrests (people who won't fight back). So, expect more law-biding, non-threatening people to be arrested. 1/2
They are not picking up dangerous criminals, but the immigrants who were actually complying with the conditions of their presence in the US. And now, other immigrants have less and less reason to do so.
"At about 15 minutes past the hour every hour all afternoon, teams of agents, many of them masked, left the building escorting four people, each in handcuffs, into parked SUVs that then quickly zipped across the street to the garage of 26 Federal Plaza, where ICE has its local field office."

Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.

The fundamental problem with the “alien enemy”-or-innocent binary in this story, as other binaries, is that it’s deeply flawed.

Innocence should be irrelevant. Even Tren de Aragua membership should be irrelevant.

What matters is that this is lawless invocation of a wartime power during peacetime.
