For those following the humanitarian situation in Gaza, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recently produced a briefing note on the availability of food in Gaza (before the GHF began operating - i.e. the baseline for that operation). They presented the following estimate:

Not going to parse language or explain context. Just note what is being said/implied in light of the following definition of the ‘crime against humanity of deportation or forcible transfer’:

A little strange that the determination does not mention intent at all. The key sentence on the actual determination sounds more like a crimes against humanity-determination on e.g. extermination and persecution. Not saying it’s not correct - just odd to leave it implicit.

Also, as noted by Alex de Waal: ‘“We need to dethrone the concept that if it’s not famine, it’s OK,” he said. “Even if it’s not a famine, it can be truly terrible.”’ I’d add that the same thing can be said about the concept of genocide. See on the pressure/access correction:

Important investigation by Reuters into the hunger situation in Gaza. Essentially, 1) Gaza consistently receives too little aid, 2) aid fluctuates and increases when Israel feels outside pressure, and 3) the IPC may be too conservative in its methodology. See on amount of aid:

We will (in all likelihood) get a new advisory opinion from the ICJ on Israel. The UN General Assembly has asked the Court the question below regarding humanitarian aid:

Great. Today, the US vetoed a Security Council resolution demanding a ceasefire and access to aid in Gaza. Two days ago, Russia did the same thing re Sudan. The veto-wielding powers aren't exactly living up to their "primary responsibility" for the maintenance of international peace and security.

Excellent story on the (lack of) evidence for al-Shifa functioning as a Hamas HQ at the time when it was attacked - and with a fantastic line-up of scholars providing legal commentary:
