This depends on your counterfactual. Could it have been better? Ofc. I'm more Chomsky than most. Was it better than an alternative: Stalin? Mao? Hitler? Churchill? Or Metternich style spheres of influence?

Maybe Denmark should attend, and sabotage the escalators?

Ahh fair enough. Most who blow the whistle might be correct. (I would not have taken her argument standalone in a thesis absent a replication. That was the real critique I had.). But "doing your own research" is hard! How about, everytime Data Colada blows the whistle, it very most likely correct?

Most articles aren't generated by fraudulent data. Articles with replication archives are easy to assess on your own. The shift to OSF/Dataverse has helped. And, prior to submission, top journals now have grad students not just replicate the code but interrogate it and the data for robustness.

She turned out to be correct. Most aren't. I'd be curious to hear form her advisors. And, God bless Data Colada.

Yup. Anchoring vignettes can help. Maybe AI/LLMs would be a good place for this to funnel open-ended answers into numbers.

The paper requires that their state-level-matched TWFE is correct, or close enough. Maybe! But identification through randomization --or-- a machine learning approach would have been more persuasive. And the state-level matching would have been improved with entropy weights (a la Yiqing Xi).

Looks like a great lineup!

I just joined Bluesky a few days ago. Some people really seem into socially disciplining each other here, and often in maximal terms.

I think sanctions on his family would suffice. Tanking the US economy would just cause a rally around the flag. Seize the Scottish golf course, rename it the Jack Smith/Hilary Clinton Honorary golf course. The 19th Hole is now The Maddow Club. Don't give it back until he renounces Greenland.

I'm reminded of David Graeber's argument that buying US treasuries were a form of tribute. If you are no longer the center of the empire, you no longer get tribute--and empires are built and maintain themselves on precisely these inflows.

I just don't get Schumer. Chamberlin, I got. The man lived through the Great War, saw unimaginable death, and naively but nobly wanted to do anything to stop something like that from happening again. He was wrong, sure, but understandable. But...Schumer?

Sehr schön!

I like Merz. He sees things clearly, and is the right person for Germany right now.
