Location at time of observation.
This was a difficult object to model in our reentry model: very eccentric orbit (brief dips below 1540 km), and indications of changing attitude =- changing drag area

CSpoC has issued a TIP for the #UNHA3 RB #reentry of 18:14 +- 1m UTC (5 Nov), half an hour earlier than our forecast (but well within error margin of the latter) over the southern Atlantic. This is presumably based on a space-based observation of the reentry fireball.

New update from our Tudat #reentry model for the #UNHA3 RB:

Update from our Tudat #reentry model for the #UNHA3 RB:

The #UNHA3 upper stage from the #NorthKorean rocket that launched KMS 3-2 in 2012 will have an uncontrolled #reentry today. It is small (2.2 x 1.4m).
Our current Tudat model reentry forecast is 19:21 UTC +- 3.1 h.
Map shows trajectory over window.

I got a question what all these areas are for. Basically this (see map). The #Minuteman is a 3-stage #missile and can carry multiple reentry vehicles (MIRV).

After two weeks, a lone CSpOC #TIP has just appeared for the Jielong-3 RB 2024-173L, the suspect of the #Newman space #debris find.
18 Oct 2025 4:38 ± 1m UTC near 18 S 121 E.
This fits well with the Newman object being a part of this rocket.

Alas a lot of RF interference during the pass so parts of image lost, but:

This sky track (right) is the result of modelling the XJY-7 satellite #reentry in our Open Source Astrodynamics toolkit #Tudat, and is compared to an actual all-sky camera image of the trajectory from Istana Atmospheric Obs, Tenerife (left). There is a good match.

A #reentry was observed from the Canary Islands this morning (16 Oct 2025) around 1:57 UTC, including the detection of shockwaves by seismic stations (!).
In cooperation with SPMN and Josep M. Trigo-Rodríguez I was able to identify it as the reentry of the Chinese XJY-7 satellite (2020-102C).

Asteroid (732272) Langejans was discovered on 18 October 2012 by @sarneczky and me with the 0.6-m Schmidt telescope of MPC 461 Piszkéstető in Hungary. Initially given our internal project code "SaLa018", it was later given the temporary designation 2014 CE24 by the MPC
