Lessons learned after building apps with Kotlin Multiplatform - Marco Gomiero
With Kotlin Multiplatform and Compose Multiplatform, you can share code and UI across multiple platforms, from Android and iOS to macOS, Windows, and Linux. But building apps on all these platforms brings unexpected challenges you don’t anticipate at the beginning. In this talk, I’ll share what I’ve learned (often the hard way) while developing apps with Kotlin Multiplatform. You’ll hear why sharing less code can sometimes save more time, how dealing with the iOS Keychain from background services turned into a debugging odyssey, and why placing your database in the wrong Windows folder can lead to silent data loss during app updates. We’ll also cover sandboxing on macOS, the trade-offs between using interfaces and expect/actual, and the complexities of distributing apps across platforms. Whether you’re just getting started with Kotlin Multiplatform or already deep into it, this talk might just save you from a few future debugging headaches..

Nowadays, when I have a new bug/idea/whatever for my apps, before writing it down in my task manager, I write it down on Claude Code Web as well.
The agent will start working on it, and then I will have something to improve or just review and merge it.

The feature that I regret the most adding on FeedFlow are notifications.
Without a server, notifications are unreliable. On old Android devices or some devices things doesn't work.
On iOS limitations are stricter.
I'm thinking of dropping the entire feature, too much headaches

Last Saturday we organized the 8th edition of the #DevFestVenezia (time flies!! 😱), and this was the biggest with more than 400 people attending.
It's always a challenge organizing such events, but it's so rewarding and satisfying. 🤩
Already looking forward for the next one!

Accessing native macOS API in Compose Multiplatform - Marco Gomiero
Compose Multiplatform is an amazing framework for building desktop applications that run on the JVM (Java Virtual Machine) on multiple platforms (macOS, Windows, and Linux).
However, things get trickier if platform-specific APIs, like iCloud on macOS, are needed. These APIs are tied to their native platforms and aren’t designed to be easily shared across multiple targets. Integrating such APIs into a Compose Multiplatform (in this article, when I mention Compose Multiplatform, I’m referring to Compose Multiplatform Desktop apps that run on the JVM) project requires some additional setup and “creativity”.
