My 3–year-old daughter pointed out the window and said “look, a little bird”. Turns out it’s a yard first Cooper’s Hawk. Already a superb birding companion.

My son & I stopped on our bike ride today & got an incidental lifer. I’m terrible at sparrow IDs & no less so local rarities. Posted this photo to the great @ababirds.bsky.social “What’s This Bird?” Facebook Group & got a near immediate ID.

One year ago today I started a #birding yard list. 32 species so far in a medium density urban neighborhood, no feeders & requiring positive visual ID. What I’ve learned: fall migration and winter better than I thought.
