Glaswegian lawyer in London with a weird niche in the law of contempt. A fan of politics, law, Jews, the Tube, pizza, football, Celtic, cats & tacos. Someone once gave me an LLM in International law so I occasionally know what I'm talking about
I was pleased to speak to the Guardian this remarkable case in which my client, Nadine Buzzard-Quashie, has succeeded in having the Chief Constable of Northamptonshire Police found in Contempt of Court

Some of my thoughts about a couple of interesting cases I have recently been involved in and what it demonstrates about the Courts' approach to providing Contempt Defendants with adequate procedural safeguards.

Fully aware that being a Jewish Glaswegian with historical, cultural and familial ties to Israel, puts me in a different position than lots of Celtic fans. That’s fine. We are allowed different view and I am always interested in different perspectives (1/3)

Excellent thread as always 👇
I see that a collection of MPs have taken it upon themselves to “launch” a private prosecution, in relation to a case which is still awaiting a CPS charging decision.

What might be the problems with this? 🧵

Very happy to have met with the Law Commission today to discuss their consultation on Contempt of Court. Some of the main concerns I raised were the proposal to abolish non-means tested legal aid, and the current iniquity in the costs provisions www.janes-solicitors.co.uk/janes-solici...

To the majority of Jews, believing Israel has a right to exist makes us Zionists. It doesn’t necessarily mean we agree with the government and doesn’t necessarily mean we support Israel’s actions in Gaza. In fact it is an intrinsic part of our Jewish identities (1/2)
I agree that Israel has a right to exist and Palestine should be free.

I'd be interested in why you feel your view differs from many Celtic fans?

Tell the British Gvt: Sanction Ben Gvir & Smotrich NOW

These extremists at the heart of the Israeli gvt want to empty northern Gaza of Palestinians & resettle it.

PM Keir Starmer has already said he’s considering it but he must act now.

Getting a lot of fellow Celtic fans following me. One thing you’ll need to learn about me quickly…I’m Jewish. I lived in Israel for a year. I detest the Israeli government but I believe Israel has a right to exist, alongside an independent and secure Palestine. That makes me a Zionist

This piece makes me want to cry. So honest and so brutal. A devastating assessment of how we have ended up where we are today.
Last year, 1436 criminal court hearings were delayed because there was no barrister to represent one side or the other.

Back in 2019, that number was just 71.

For Counsel I ask:

Where have all the criminal barristers gone?
