Ruìhé is an east Asian woman with lanky proportions. The musculature of her legs is defined yet wiry due to a spastic paralysis condition (HSP). Her hands are veiny and her face and arms are freckled. She wears a simple, short-sleeved dress colored bright red; it is the only color in the otherwise black-and-white piece. The backdrop is composed of simple black plains of streaky marker, suggesting a floor and a wall.

Miguel is a curly-haired, stocky Latino man whereas Antoine's head has been replaced with a tree; they both wear old-fashioned clothing. Both sit on the floor against a bare wall within a house. Miguel lays slouched, with his head resting on Antoine's lap, who tenderly caresses his him. Red, the only color in the piece, drips from Miguel's exposed ear, and down his face. Antoine's head is a walnut tree, barren of leaves yet bearing large fruits. It stretches beyond the canvas and casts a shadow on the wall.
