call me insane, but i like to graph the number of pages i've written in my journals as the year progresses.

during these past few months i lowkey lost interest in writing though, as shown below.

hopefully i'll get back into it this year, if not, i honestly don't mind that much

I read Ken Kesey's 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗙𝗹𝗲𝘄 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗼𝗼'𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘀𝘁. I thought it was a nice story about power and systems of control; there are some passages throughout the book about women that made me feel icky though, especially with a certain line at the climax in Part IV (?). #booksky

I read Aldous Huxley's 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱. I found it a little boring until halfway through when John was introduced, so you can see why I acted like THAT (see quoted post) when I got to the last chapter. Despite its flaws prose-wise I thought its ideas & worldbuilding were interesting 🏝️🇮🇸. #booksky

I read 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗔𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 after finishing the thematically similar 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗕𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 a few weeks prior. I was surprised to see how nuanced this was regarding views on the white men and Christianity, especially with how the dynamic Okonkwo and Nwoye had was influenced by them.

Tonight I finished 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘪𝘯-𝘎𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘭𝘭-𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘴 by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah whilst trying not to cry at a Middle Eastern coffee shop. Not only is it an engaging hunger-games-or-squid-game-esque novel but I also learned a lot about the US Prison System as well!

It was 2018, and my closeted 15 y/o self asked someone to buy Aciman's 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘔𝘦 𝘣𝘺 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘕𝘢𝘮𝘦 after watching the movie. I finally read it and… I'm not saying it's bad, but ig adult me isn't into romance books nowadays. Plus I watched the movie 3 times so I knew what'd happen LOL

Done with J.G. Ballard’s 𝘊𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘩. I’m not one to kinkshame but I 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 I’m going to have to draw the line at getting yourself and others killed in a car accident to fulfill some fantasy. 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐛𝐞 that’s just me though. Really bizarre, but great.

May 2025 Journal Update

Historians years after my death will discover these diaries and have trouble comprehending the bizarre chain of events making up the night of 12 April.

I’ve written 30 pages this month. The total page count is 1493.

Finished 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘰𝘪𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘸𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘉𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 by Barbara Kingsolver last night. So many layers to this one, tackling themes like guilt, colonialism, and religion! Kinda slow but it does pick up the pace. Also features characters you’re gonna LOVE to hate!

Thursday evening. Finished just-released 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘎𝘭𝘢𝘥𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 by Ocean Vuong. Kinda nostalgic and slice-of-lifey. Can get dark and emotional but there are also some parts that made me giggle. Reminiscent of my grandmother who passed away. Miss you Lola!

Finished 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘗𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘦 by Yoko Ogawa. Man, this book is too current for me and I felt absolutely awful by the end of it. Probably b/c of how everyone’s complicity towards the disappearances reflects our own behavior. I still loved it though! 4.5/5! #booksky #dystopian #literature

Finished 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘴 by Dennis Cooper.

ᵒʰ ʲᵉˢᵘˢ

I enjoyed it, but this is possibly the most graphic thing I've read since 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘗𝘴𝘺𝘤𝘩𝘰. An interview reveals he was fascinated with Marquis de Sade. Figures.

It won a Lammy so that’s pretty cool.

April 2025 Journaling Update

I added 34 pages to my little autobiography, making it 1463 pages long.

Nothing to write home about, but it’s still nice capturing the small moments. 🙂

Reached 𝓁𝒶 𝒻𝒾𝓃 of Henry Miller's intellectual, horny, and intellectually horny; funny, sad, and funnily sad 𝘛𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘤 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳. Although I was bored in the first half I found the second half entertaining. Anyone else had the same experience?

ROAD RANTS 0 (might change title?)

May or may not start a series on where I go on semi-stream-of-consciousness style rambles as I recall the drives that I go on, and the thoughts that were going on my head during that time.

I just finished 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘨 𝘋𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 by @torreypeters.bsky.social! After finishing each story I had to slam the book shut and was like “DAMN…” (/pos). Can’t wait to discuss this with book club later!

(March 2024) Climbing down from Guadalupe Peak. I think that’s a dried up river I see? You can also see the road to New Mexico, and the trail back to where I parked.

(March 2024) Reached Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in Texas. Culberson County!

🎵 If they were right, I'd agree
But it's them they know, not me
Now there's a way, and I know
That I have to go away 🎵
