I feel like it's gotta be stressed that the scale of American traffic violence is a genuine catastrophe. It's one of the biggest killers of otherwise healthy people and it totally erodes the viability of communities. It has to be treated with urgency

I don’t disagree with this, but on balance I don’t really care about it being predatory tbh? Like that inequity is worth the lives saved/damage avoided.

Wealth is always an unequal factor - there are cases where that’s worth halting something but this doesn’t feel like one

Many people are asking if the decision to fire Rodney Terry was a mistake … Sean Miller not helping his case today!

I think it’s reasonable not to be that interested in the “coach has an affair” style of rumor until it boils into something official - as has been mentioned, the batting average on those is abysmal.

I also don’t care a ton about affairs in most cases? This is the exception, not the rule

This is exactly how I feel - graduated last spring and I adored my four years. UT was wonderful to me & opened so many doors — which is what makes this right wing assault on the institution so heartbreaking. And to what end … unironically wishing UT would just get back to trying to game US News

It’s like someone took polls, and asked “what if we cranked all the issues with this up to 10?”

If you’re in line to interview Jay Paterno, stay in line

Agreed that ND was a title contender in the way the last team out of March Madness isn’t, but not sure expansion (while it would solve this problem) is worth it on balance given that we’ve already devalued the reg season so much. My team, Texas, shouldn’t be in a playoff when you lose 25% of games!

Oh yeah don’t get me wrong this committee was an absolute trainwreck. I feel a little bit for the poor sap who has to talk for them, but even on that scale Yurachek was terrible.

More that I think even if a diff. committee would’ve been less bad, it’s kind of an impossible job to do
December 9, 2025 at 1:02 AM
Agreed w the second half, but disagree with the first - people may have understood the BCS but they were still mad.

First teams out of March Madness oft mad too (tho I concede that’s a committee, it’s at large #38) - feel like the 1st team out of any field will be frustrated

Lot of examples of candidates winning primaries that are ill suited for the general - mostly from the GOP side (Oz, Mastriano, Akin, etc) - which is a problem I’m not dying to bring to the Dem. ledger!

This is a bad faith argument - even putting aside that I’m sure Chris would care, injuries happen in all games.

Take it out to the logical extreme, if you want to avoid injuries, why play any games at all? Why practice? They’re an unfortunate but unavoidable part of football

Common clause in NIL/rev share contracts now is that the final payment (oft the largest one) is contingent on playing thru last game of the team’s season, incl. playoff/bowl games - which makes total sense

I find the SEC brigade as annoying as the next guy, but selecting 2023 as your cut off point is silly!

Can absolutely get behind the case that the top of the B10 is better (I think so), but we don’t have to pretend that the level of team/ athlete in the mid/bottom of the SEC isn’t notably better
December 8, 2025 at 4:40 AM
Think re Mills, that may be true in a primary but wouldn’t be in a general given Collins isn’t young or anti-establishment and Maine is also the oldest state in the nation
December 3, 2025 at 6:26 PM
Totally fair re how much moderation helps - I tend to think it is somewhat useful but varies significantly depending on the type of seat/other race specific factors.

But also to your point, think a Dem. of any ideological stripe wouldn’t have won in this race once nationalized by the GOP
December 3, 2025 at 5:55 AM
Reasonable, can see the value

Opposing argument is that between primary & general (esp in early primary), may not be able to predict if the national envmt takes a seat from “not even a chance” to “well if this is 2006…”

Obv primaries are elections not appointments so wtv but in theory!

Don’t disagree w/ this! Behn certainly seemed compelling, good at video/strong speaker, well liked in Nashville/the Dem base in the district. Totally reasonable to argue she was the strongest Dem who could’ve run, no reason to disagree w that!

Think the moderation debate broadly is fair tho!
December 3, 2025 at 4:28 AM
Interested in how you define moderate v progressive here - for example, looking at the 13 Dems in 2024 who won in districts Trump won (as one example of Dems winning in purple seats), how’d you categorize them?
December 3, 2025 at 4:26 AM
Thank you for your work 🫡🫡
December 3, 2025 at 4:03 AM
Agreed! It’s also kind of an obvious point in my eyes? Like you probably want a more moderate Dem. running in red ME-2 than you do in Chicago … which is exactly what you’d think given the whole point is kind of that reps reflect their voters. Only so far to go & so much to do w/ that insight!
