Whether or not you think it’s good to have that *right* we are way past the looking glass. We have 490 million and aren’t giving them up without a big ugly fight way worse than just annual gun violence. Especially when basic things like med errors, car accidents or trips/falls kill more Americans.

Yeah idk about the last part but it’s true that you used to be able to order machine guns out of sears catalogues shipped directly to your front door and we barely had any of these shootings back then. They didn’t really pick up till around here.

I mean it’s true what you want me to say? Their homicides were 4X lower than ours and their gun homicides 16X lower already in decline pre-96. Even removing all our gun violence compare us to other western countries including their gun violence and we still dominate in violent crimes like homicide.

Ultimately 🇦🇺 always had drastically less gun violence and overall violence which was already on a downward trend before their 96 ban. This isn’t so much out of necessity as it is about just a knee jerk reaction to a tragedy like “well we have to look like we’re doing something”

It makes sense that it’s going up because guns don’t cause violence and you have to be dense to think the answer is taking away freedoms. It’s raising living standards. It’s mental healthcare access, over-work, the war on drugs, political instability. The problem is: late stage capitalism.

It’s 82%-95% I misquoted the 92% from a different study but it does fall within that range. Whichever way you look at it the vast overwhelming majority involve zero shots fired. Which makes sense intuitively. Nobody wants to get shot & most predators don’t want a fight they just want easy victims.
