Climate storytelling isn’t easy. Grey’s Anatomy hasn’t shied away from important issues, including climate change. The mid-season finale tackled a heat dome. It may not have even felt like a climate story to many viewers, given that the intensity was right up the medical drama’s alley. 1/3

I love that THR is highlighting Good on You. It’s a company that gives brands ratings based on labor, environmental, and animal welfare practices. THR's sustainability issue highlighted how few of the celebrity brands are sustainable. Much of it has to do with their lack of transparency.
Which Celebrity Beauty and Fashion Brands Are Actually Sustainable? Not Many …
Eco-ratings platform Good on You says several star-backed labels, from Fenty Beauty to Skims, are lagging on best practices and transparency.

Sustainability on and off screen. I love to see it!

Ransom Canyon is Netflix’s first production to be powered entirely by solar and batteries. Netflix is a major player, so if it’s adopting renewable energy sources, it’s only a matter of time before others will too.

I love that The Day After Tomorrow is still in the conversation today. In an article in The Hollywood Reporter’s sustainability issue, the film’s producer reflected on how the blockbuster introduced people to climate change.

Roland Emmerich's popcorn flick earned praise from the former vice president for alerting millions to the dangers of global warming.

I’m so excited to dig into The Hollywood Reporter’s Sustainability issue!
Sustainability Issue 2025
Productions are getting leaner, greener, smarter. Hollywood may not save the world, but the dream factory, for all its flaws, hasn’t stopped dreaming.

Shout out to Ecofixr & Filmscape Chicago for their sustainability work in the Chicago film industry. LED light, no single-use plastics, and donating food. It's not easy to get started, but it can be done. Check out what they've been doing:

I dreamed of being a journalist when I was 13, and after working in this field, it looks completely different from what I imagined it would be when I was young. While the industry has changed significantly, good journalism is still out there. Here’s what I’m reading:

The news cycle is insane, so I love getting great mental health advice. ThredUp's Danielle Vermeer shared what she does on Sustainable Fashion Forum's Live Substack: try to unplug, read a Substack, and a physical book.

There certainly isn't anything like reading a physical book!

I’ve been a @heatmap.news reader for a while, but recently became a subscriber and checked out its subscriber Livestream. This month, the focus was on the future of the IRA. Its reporter, @emilypont.bsky.social, gave some great advice to keep you sane while we wait: “Have a sense of the timeline.”

The Los Angeles wildfires took an extraordinary financial and emotional toll on millions of people in Southern California, a new survey found. More than 40% of the adults surveyed said they knew someone who had been personally affected by the wildfires.

Good on You’s Fashion Planet Benchmark Report is eye-opening. The most striking thing was that only 17% of fashion brands’ targets are science-based targets aligned with the Paris Agreement. What’s the point of a target to help the environment if it’s not science-based?

I’ve wanted to watch Flow for a while, but to watch a cat go through terrible things as a cat lover, I needed to be in the right mindset.

With no dialogue, it relies heavily on the images, which portray a beautiful story of a cat making unlikely friends to survive a catastrophic flood.

I had no idea how much the quality of clothes had gone down until I went through my old high school clothes and saw they were still in good condition. You couldn’t say that about the clothes bought today and then looked at 20 to 30 years later.

There could be a silver lining to the tariffs—the growing second-hand clothing market. While this doesn’t solve our massive problem with the fashion industry, it is a step in the right direction. There are already too many clothes in the world; there isn’t a need for new ones.
