I’m having a hard time staying hopeful, and that isn’t like me.

I keep thinking, is this really what people wanted? Is this really what the people who go to church in my hometown wanted?

If it is, then God help us all.

This is likely due to my Southern Baptist upbringing, but I am highly sensitive to any belief system, political or religious, right, left, or otherwise, that demands conformity, is too certain of its own correctness, does not allow for reasoned dissent, and refuses to consider other points of view.

Then Jesus said unto the sick, “you better have insurance.”

Then Jesus said unto the stranger, “are you here legally?”

Then Jesus said unto the hungry, “my taxes better not be paying for these loaves and fishes.”

Then Jesus said unto the poor, “this is your own fault.”

A Christianity that prioritizes love of nation over love of neighbor is a Christianity completely devoid of Jesus Christ.

Dear Christians,

For me, the thing that knocked the wind out of me with this election is that I dared to believe America would get it right THIS time, that America was ready for a Woman President.

It hurt having that blind faith in neighbors, friends, and strangers smacked out of me.

Dammit, America. 😞
