Hydrangea, roses and rudbeckia I'd expect to last, but clematis? Also geranium 'Rozanne', nasturtiums, Japanese anemones, fuchsia, Mexican fleabane, pinks and the violas I planted in March which have been flowering ever since!

This jade plant is a family heirloom. My father brought home a piece from a plant in the offices where he worked. He stuck it in a pot, and when I left home, I took a piece with me. Much like Dr Who it's been through a few regenerations from cuttings, but it's at least 50 years old.

Getting more intense

Dozens of guillemot gathered on a rocky outcrop. They look a bit like little penguins, standing upright with very dark brown backs and heads and white bellies. The warm light of the setting sun gives everything a soft glow - including the thick coating of creamy guano on the rocks.

Just a phone shot but had a brilliant day at RSPB Bempton @rspbbemptoncliffs.bsky.social last week. So many birds and the magnificent gannets.
