Yeah, it was trying to thread the "my friends are idiots but I love them" needle.

Almost like trying to proactively redeem an ugly political movement because they didn't want to believe the alternative (was a bit guilty of that myself at times).

My biggest nitpick was they captured the growing anger of rural Americans during the Obama administration but play them off as lovable, harmless cranks.

Bit of a misread on the Trump base, but also it's a comedy show and I hesitate too put too much on the politics it displays.

The public blames GOP 2:1 for the shutdown and they're ratcheting up the pain of everyday Americans so they personally feel the effects.

The fact these people hold as much power as they do is a national embarrassment and also a testament to just now strong the GOP propaganda machine is.
