This is the more common view I get of these great birds, swooping stiff-winged across the waves, even in weather much rougher than this. They almost never flap, but instead use a zig-zag swoop to catch air currents and updrafts near the surface, spending nearly zero energy to fly indefinitely.

The oldest known individual is named Wisdom. She's at least 74 years old, and hatched a chick just this year!

Saw this pair of pretty ospreys on Wednesday while waiting for tugboats to show up and assist us off the dock.
They flew off before we dropped lines, but then one returned and landed on the tugboat line while it was humming-taut pulling on 110k tons of ship - and very quickly changed it's mind!
