Really enjoyed this gathering

The best bit was, as I said in my talk, the recognition that a #NetZero world can improve our standards of living & wellbeing

Not just by reducing bills, but also by sharing resources and connecting with our communities in ways that build friendship & neighbourliness
Last night was our annual Our Faith Our Planet conference. Speakers shared perspectives from different faiths, read poems, gave updates on eco projects happening across Greater Manchester and delegates even had the opportunity to participate in a quiz!

28 October 1787 Abolitionist Thomas Clarkson preached a sermon at the now @mancathedral.bsky.social invited by local campaigners. The speech rallied the people of Manchester against the slave trade. Within months Manchester had initiated UK’s first mass anti-slave trade petition campaign.

On Nov 10th, we are launching a special appeal for our bells. The sound of church bells is very special and we will be sharing some stories and memories people have of the cathedral bells over the next few months

This morning, Solomon John, an ordinand on placement with us, preached his first sermon at the cathedral at the 9am service

We are delighted to have Solomon with us for a long term placement and pray for his continuing development as he prepares for ordained ministry

We are sad to report that The Very Revd Ken Riley, Dean of Manchester from 1993 to 2005 has died

Members of the cathedral staff, volunteers and clergy, were able to get a tour of Salford Cathedral, which is nearing the end of its restoration

Great to see the building being lovingly restored, with investment in sustainable features
So lucky to go on a tour of Salford Cathedral, as it comes near the end of its renovation

As well as beautiful restoration, they have invested in ways to make the cathedral as sustainable as possible, whilst retaining the beauty of the heritage

A busy morning at the Cathedral!

We are grateful to Mr Rob Knight and to Canon Jo Calladine, chaplain, from HMP Manchester for joining us. Canon Jo talked about giving thanks, a theme addressed in Sunday School. And then, an engaging Bible study as the group continued to explore the book of Job

The cathedral will be closed to visitors on Friday 10th October between 11am and 1.30pm. Our public services on Friday will be as follows

Morning Prayer followed by Holy Communion 9am
Evening Prayer 4.30pm
