But the way, anyone following me I'm dyslexic.

I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to spell initiatives.

So if I make a typo, please understand, I might be a crap at spelling, but computational fluid dynamics, well now we can have a conversation

Carbon offsets are utter bollocks, it a lie to pretend to be doing something.

The only option we have is a rapid phase out of fossil fuels, and increase in realistic carbon removal investment.
Planting tree isn't enough now.

The ocean's carbon cycle is our best hope right now.

How much proof do we need that COP is not worth the paper it's written.

Yes great triple the money available to developing nations, but no real movement on actually making the changes needed to address climate change.
COP29 is into overtime, with small island states & least developed nations walking out of the proposed financing deal and news that negotiating text was hand-edited by a member of the Saudi energy ministry. More here: www.dw.com/en/cop29-cli... and here: www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Quite possibly one of the most important documents ever written, and Americans have again proven it's only read or quoted when it suits them.
When I was a child, I learned that the Constitution didn’t apply to people like us. I said the Pledge of Allegiance from inside a barbed wire camp, the words “with liberty and justice for all” wholly meaningless.

But I did not give up on America. I’ve spent my life fighting for its ideals.
When we were children, we were taught that no matter how you reached, no matter much wealth and power you accumulated, you were not above the law.

We can no longer teach our children that.

And that's really fucking tragic.

Great more money for developing nations, seriously that's good.

But the fact that this was years in the planning, just proves COP is useless.

This last week rain has devastated the Iberian peninsula.

Valencia being the most prominent.

However, at what point does climate solutions merge with mitigation.

How does mitigation, become a solution.

The most recent study into the viability of the Atlantic Medoidonal overturning current, is sobering.

However we're still waiting for someone else to solve it.

Still waiting for someone else to stop it or repair it.

We are the only option here, stop waiting for someone elseto do it.

@vonderleyen.at.ec.europa.eu

You came to Bluesky with the view to, I hope making a difference.

However I must ask what the difference actually is.

Is it to promote the EU or promote real solutions to problems the EU is facing.

Energy, water being the two main issues.

What do you want here?

We see it so often that I think we can state this as a general rule:

Those who most loudly proclaim their patriotism will, given the time and opportunity, harm their own nations as surely as any foreign adversary.

We have a problem.

It's a bunch of people making their mind up with little to no information.

When, we decide to ignore or delete their bullshit, all we do is confirm their bullshit ideas.

It's called confirmation bias.

We're never going to convince a conspiracy theorist.
So stop trying

Deep sea mining, why, well on the ocean floor there are some potatoes that a few people are fawning over.

They claim it's the answer to our problems, everything we need for our modern technology is in those potatoes.

However, those potatoes have a price, a price too heavy for the planet.

Everything that makes up those polymetallic nodules, the deep-sea mining community lust after, are locked away in seawater.
We don't need to mine the ocean floor.
Brine is a discarded waste product from desalination plants, guess what's in it....

We have a renewable alternative.
The spectre of deep-sea mining still looms very large

Here's a free link to an excellent account by @stevehaddock.bsky.social in the @nytimes.com of what's going on and why mining the deep is a terrible idea for people and planet

A couple years old, but unfortunately still relevant: the hidden dangers of deep-sea mining for the ocean. [Free link]

Because of sediments, effects will not be limited to neat, square boxes on the seafloor.

A treasured collaboration with Dr. Anela Choy. 🦑🧪🌊
