Manalog: Mana (curse) log (record) analog (non-binary) log (felled tree)
Recommended. Moving and melancholy look at life in smalltown Florida as it sinks under rising seas while society collapses. Narrow and precise in focus, the tale is riveting and believable (albeit with magic realism woven in). Not hopium, but resilience and adaptation. #collapsebookclub

Harvested the white currant bush today. Not enough for juice so... liqueur.🫠

Took our bikes and went swimming at our local (Southern Finland) lake today, morning water temps at 24C, and this is a cooler (spring) lake. Sunny and 30C later today, and the next week or so every day expected to be between 25C to 30C highs. June was unseasonably cool, though.

Our cold blob garden is doing pretty well this year. Potatoes, currants, gooseberries, zucchini, lettuce, herbs, turnips, straw and raspberries all growing fast. 🌱

We visited a closeby glassworks and museum today. I do love all those old pharmacy bottles in rusty colors. Couldn't find any bayer heroin though. 👀

Thanks Sandy!! Since it's well cropped, you don't see that we're sandwiched between two homes on both sides in this suburbia. But none of them have hobbit houses (root cellars) like we do. ;)

Tiny is good and manageable! But I sincerely hope the woods there stick around. We're lucky to have some too, just a sliver (houses beyond them) but it connects to a nature preserve nearby.

I don't generally clip comics, but this one I've kept for a decade or so.

Surrealist exhibition today. Andre Masson knew the 'genius of our species.' 👀 #artsky

Yeah, we call him amber eyes! His twin brother (not a vegetarian) has much duller color in his eyes. He does like rolling in the grass too. 😼

Zimi Zimmerman enjoys chilling in our backyard. He likes to eat grass and observe birds. No interest in eating them, or mice. Vegetarian kitty. 😸

Second pear tree. Not planted yet, but clearly eager to be in the ground. 👀

Almost set for the summer, first potatoes (red) planted, plus carrots, turnips, lettuce and others. Two gooseberry cuttings taking off in pots, and the raspberry and white currant are showing off. Spring! 🌱

I do have this on my backpack...

No hiking today, but pruned and propagated our gooseberry bush and sea buckthorn, dug out a new potato patch, and managed some other yardwork. Have a pear tree to plant sometime later on. Next week looks to be warm, so figured all the cutting needs to be done before that happens. Go rhubarb! 🌱

Yes! And, we get our very own action movies here in the backyard. This is a key scene from the blockbuster Fieldfare vs. The Squirrel. 😉

I got one of those "insect hotels" for our friendly neighborhood pollinators when we moved here in '21. The woodpeckers consider it their snack bar. Never seen a single insect there. The bees, I found out, have their own spot in a pile of rocks under an apple tree...
