directional に makes me feel crazy. brain broken. how am I supposed to know which direction it's pointing? I just have to memorize every verb? no way right?

wow. て‐form verbs are really really tough for me to pronounce, at least all the ones I'm currently running into. 教えています? whew, I am struggling.

I signed up for an actual live real Japanese language class. It starts in a couple weeks. I hope I get a lot out of it! It's tough to know the right level because my skills are all over the place, but my speaking is most remedial, so I'm starting with Beginner 2.

I don't like when words are written in only kana.
I don't mind okurigana but I'd rather see ateji than words written without kanji. But that's on me because I really don't know the language. I am better at the meaning of kanji than the sounds of Japanese.

I love these pencils so much, they are triangular, soft, and the leads never break. They're from Daiso. the notebooks are too, they're made for kana and kanji practice, for kids.

I stopped doing my wanikani in late July. I guess I was pretty busy, and maybe hitting a wall, interest-wise.
So that means I took 6 months off.

It took two weeks of sorting through, doing my lowest level reviews, before the remainder started looking very unfamiliar.
I reset back to 14, from 17.

The example sentences given (via a plugin I'm using) for the kanji 着 (wear, arrive) use the term "不時着した", which isn't one of the wk vocab words. It's "crash-landed"! (fujichakushita).
So essentially: unexpected-time arrived.

This week's practice/notes.

I'm already glad that I know some kanji. This is from the textbook I'm working through, but my kanji is a bit ahead. I'm not used to seeing all kana.

I also watch too many supernatural anime.

So when I started reading this sentence, with the translation hidden: "on this god, my name, write..."

I hate when WK's suggested mnemonic for a "ryo" is an english word that starts "ro". Ro is a phoneme in japanese, this is a misleading mneumonic device. bad! I know english doesnt have a lot of ryo sounds but come on.
I stick with WK bc it works for me, but sometimes their suggestions are not good.

Went from ~800 to ~700 items in my wanikani review pile today. I'm using a script to reorder the reviews by level, so all 700 of those are higher level than what I've done so far. I wonder how much farther before items stop looking familiar? It's starting to happen a bit already, damn.

My Japanese journey has been long, slow, and sporadic. I began in, I think, 2019 - maybe even 2018, when we started working with a Japanese business partner. I haven't needed language skills yet, but there could certainly be a day when it will be helpful! ...Wow, I can't believe it's been 6 years.

Trying to figure out where I am in wanikani is a beast of a task. I don't want to reset too far back but I am buried in reviews and I keep being blindsided by kanji I ought to remember. However most of them seem to stick with me after a refresh, so maybe I shouldn't totally reset those levels.

I made this account so I have somewhere to vent and unload and document my Japanese language journey. I eventually want to be writing this in Japanese, but I'm not there yet. I'm probably a barely-passing N5 level, some N4 vocab. I was WK level 17 but I stopped for 8-ish months and forgot a ton.
