Here's the thing so many people get wrong about the whole CRT blending thing: It only really did that on crappy CRTs with noisy analogue RF inputs. I should know. I once had a cheap hand-me-down TV that I had to manually tune with a dial.

Most pixel art of the time was DRAWN on CRT screens.

Clair Obscur might be the perfect example of videogame 'Oscar Bait'. Glossy and professionally produced, mostly realistic aesthetics, a familiar genre with a little twist, a Meaningful And Emotional story, and safely within the social mores of western pop culture. No asian 'weirdness' here!

This all sounds like criticism, and no, not really. It's a very good game and probably deserving of most of the praise heaped upon it. But almost every part of it feels like any sharp edges have been sanded down for palatability.

It gives it a glossy mirror sheen and palatable, mainstream appeal.

42 geese and 42 swans feel like they could be an army.

The lyrics to this song is so funny, it has basically 0.00% anything to do with Ultima but they stick the word Ultima in it repeatedly in the most hilarious way possible.

THE (romantic) LOVE OF ULTIMA
IS LIKE THE BLADE OF A GAZE
ONCE IT FALLS UPON YOU
YOU CANNOT MOVE.
DON'T LOOK AT ANYONE ELSE!!!!

A lot of them just feel that if games aren’t sufficiently premium or famous, it isn’t worth the time to check out. I fundamentally disagree but I know people like this.

I used a gaming laptop with a very robust cooling system (for a laptop) as my primary for a while. It was great for maybe 4 years or so, but the heat eventually caused longevity issues starting around year 5. Switched to a desktop since then.

I really don't get this hatred towards tutorials tbh. Even in genres that I know very well, each game has its own systems and languages. Taking the time to learn the ropes tend to enrich my experience in the games, and stuff like 'press WASD to move' never take more than a few minutes of my time.

Except those shills that come out like clockwork to call you a progress-hating troglodyte whenever you say something bad about it, indeed. I refuse to believe those people aren’t paid.

I thought Vista was just fine and 8 sucked but 8.1 was fine, but I hate 11 with the fire of a thousand suns. Worst Windows I’ve used and I’ve been using everything since 3.0 except Windows NT.

I use W11 on a different machine and disagree on both it being like 10 and it being better. And I’ve used even 8 and Vista without complaint.

Maybe it’s just people have different degrees of tolerance for bullshit than you do.

I saw a series of ads, it’s basically everything else drools and windows 11 rules. Which is like, okay, how did they think that would convince anyone.

嫌ですね。

11は職場で使ってますが、3.0から全Windowsを通ったユーザーから見てもクソすぎます。12で作り直せマイクロソフト。10で待つ。12は駄目なら今度こそ思い切ってLinuxに行く。

For a second I read this as meaning, the Neuromancer series' torment nexus will arrive, and it will be delivered through AppleTV+, bless its future success and shareholder values.

I think I've read too much recent SF.

Considering the nature of the constant raging warfare between the husbando faction and the waifu faction in gacha spaces, this does seem to be a stronger drive in entertainment than most people give it credit for.

I just checked and wow, locked to Taiwan and HK and China only. How on earth are you accessing it? I thought VPNs put you at risk of account ban on Steam?

I explained and she stopped, though I think it's because she figured I don't like it rather than because she thinks it's genuinely harmful. (I'm not an artist) It's sad and frustrating. The world they lived through was different, they have no tools to understand this thing and how it feeds from us.
