It wasn't long before Jack & Louis bumped into Lightning, who was carrying a particularly tasty morsel of Twoleg food in his mouth. The old ticked tabby quickly gobbled it down before saying "I've been looking for you, Jack. Can I talk to you for a minute?" "As long as it isn't about something trivial like the Twolegs giving you a slightly different piece of their food today," Jack mewed. "Oh, no," Lightning said with a laugh. "In fact, I actually have a new mission for you. Come with me." Lightning and Jack made their way towards a secluded alley, while Louis went off to do his own thing. "What is it, Lightning?" Jack asked. "Is another rogue group causing trouble?" "Well, that's somewhat related," Lightning said. "A high-ranking cat from DiamondClan has come to visit, and you are to act as their bodyguard. Even if it seems they brought a warrior escort. I guess you can never have enough protection in a place like this." Lightning chuckled. Jack looked to the side, unimpressed by Lightning's remark. "Why do they need a bodyguard? They're a Clan cat, they're probably strong enough on their own. Even without the warrior escort." "You see," Lightning said, "DiamondClan has recently been dealing with a group of rogues who want to take advantage of the fact that Granitestar hasn't got much time left. You see, this Clan cat is the sole kit of Granitestar himself, and the rogues want to target the both of them, as well as Granitestar's mate, so that DiamondClan is left without a leader." "Isn't there a deputy to take over the leader position?" Jack asked. "DiamondClan isn't like other Clans in that regard," Lightning mewed in response. "Their Warrior Code has a few glaring differences. Namely, if the leader dies, one of their kits, or kin, takes up the mantle of leader." "Can you tell me what this super important cat looks like, at least?" Jack asked. "Well, their main identifying feature is the stripe of darker fur running down their back, as well as their short, puffy tail," Lightning said. "Almost like a rabbit's. They've got quite a unique look to them. Self-described as 'stunning'." By now, Jack was imagining a pretty tom with the features Lightning described. "I think I'll be up to it," he meowed. "I'm a good fighter. Now where do you think they'll enter the Twolegplace from?" "DiamondClan's territory is to the south, so maybe near the ponds," Lightning explained. Jack headed off towards there with a nod. "Too cool to say goodbye to a cat like me, huh?" Lightning meowed as Jack trotted away. "Oh well, I guess I'll keep bothering the Twolegs for food." Jack waited near the ponds, looking off towards the forest. Surely the DiamondClan cat & their warrior escort would be here by now. After a long while, two cats came out of the woods, meowing at each other. Jack noticed that one of them had a stripe of darker fur down their back and a short, puffy tail, just like Lightning described. But this cat was hardly stunning by Jack's standards, what with their pushed-in face and heavy build. In fact, that looked like a kit! Why in the world would DiamondClan send a kit to the Twolegplace?! In Jack's incredulous shock, the other cat caught his eye. They had a long, fluffy pelt, with marbled gold stripes along their back, and the prettiest blue eyes. Jack walked up to the travellers, and meowed "Do you happen to be from DiamondClan?" "Oh, great, he's trying to trade us some useless wolf-droppings," the kit said. "Pay no mind, Sheepfur!" "Hang on, I'm no trader-cat!" Jackdusk meowed. "I'll be offering you some protection around the Twolegplace!" The kit hesitated a bit, before mewing "How do we know you aren't some kind of crazed cat-eating rogue?" Sheepfur, the other cat, quickly gave the kit a soft bap with their paw. "Forgive Roachkit. He can be quite interesting." They leaned a bit closer to Jack, before whispering "And by interesting, I mean difficult. So, so difficult." Jack stared at Roachkit. "Is this a prank? I heard that the visitor would be described as 'stunning', and, well—." Roachkit turned his back to Jack, dramatically sulking. "Nice to know that our 'protection' in the Twolegplace is all too happy to sass such an important Clan cat." Roachkit turned back his head a little to stare at Jack. "Although, I should say the other cats in my Clan were right, this DOES seem like their descriptions of the famed 'Tomcat Killer'… Sleek, black & white, insanely hot…" That last descriptor, especially coming from a cat like Roachkit, made Jack think of taking a swan dive directly into the ponds, never to come up for air. He was well aware of his infamy as the Tomcat Killer, able to sweep any young tom off his feet, but he sure didn't want to hear it from a kit! Jack was already thinking of ditching the mission, something he'd never even pondered during all his tenure in the Twilight Force. Seriously, he should be in the nursery, whining for a badger ride, rather than trying to get with me!
